Dr. Marc Herman of Woodbury, a successful businessman who was the official New York Islanders dentist for several seasons, cited many of the corruption concerns in the town where he has lived his whole life with his wife and children. Dr. Herman is a leader in his field of dentistry and is on the faculty of Northwell/Hofstra School of Medicine where he rose to chief of five of its dental divisions and serves on the Medical Ethics Committee. He has a Master’s Degree in Medical Ethics from Creighton University. Most notably, Dr. Herman served on the Syosset School District in a volunteer capacity for almost 20 years as a school board Trustee, Vice President and then President from 2006 to 2012. It was here that he honed his administrative and governmental skills while overseeing a budget very similar in size to the Town of Oyster Bay’s. He also dealt with some of the same issues that face our Town: union contract negotiations and pay scales, transportation network/vehicle deployment, snow removal, athletic field construction/usage and budgeting/debt management. Dr. Herman originally became involved in the community through the Gates-Ridge Civic Association for which he served as Treasurer and then President. More recently he has been a member of the Cerro Wire Coalition. During Dr. Herman’s tenure on the school board, the Syosset schools were rated amongst the top schools in the New York and the nation while maintaining the highest bond ratings possible with every being budget balanced and under the State tax cap.
